 Experiences in EME 2040

I very much enjoyed my experience in this class with my classmates and professor, as it is quite different from my other classes that I've had thus far at Florida State University. I like that there as a lot of freedom to create what we wanted how we desired for our future classrooms and to learn in our desired subjects and age range where possible. We regularly collaborated with classmates and I enjoyed getting to know how others thought about my ideas and learning new things and perspectives that I would have never thought of. I did dislike that we used relatively complicated tools at times and that we sometimes were unable to the most creative due to guidelines on some assignments, cost of certain programs being an obstacle as well. for example, weekly not allowing full freedom on their free plan. To improve the classroom experience, I would choose to research new and free ways in which to introduce emerging technology and to allow for more fun tools in the learning environment to reach those who learn differently than the mainstream.

Open Educational Resources

Resources that are Open to all and in the realm of education are very important for the classroom as they help those who cannot afford certain resources and they are easier to communicate to parents and students who also may be unable to access resources due to cost. The link below is a website that describes what exactly open educational resources are and gives a brief overview of the importance of these resources in the classroom. the website is very clear in providing this information and makes it easy to use in order to explain these resources to those who may benefit from them. introducing these resources may be difficult as educational resources that aren't "open" are often preferred and given much more care and attention, but utilizing these resources needs to be the focus until such time that more resources become available without such restriction.

New Skills

Some things that I learned from working on Assignment 4, PowerPoint for Information Dissemination, were how to further utilize this Microsoft product that I've used previously quite often. I thought that I knew quite a lot about the program but I didn't even know how to properly link an image or icon, or how to record a video with a powerpoint without a separate app, or about the designer tool which helped tremendously. I did not like the recording portion of the assignment due to my personal discomfort in recording myself in general but it was quite easy and as long as I didn't fully listen to it and cringe, I was fine to submit as is. I loved creating the powerpoint and I chose a topic that is one of my favorites, though the time limit or suggestion didn't allow me to fully go into detail on the lesson so I used it as an overview and introduction for upcoming instruction and projects. To improve next time, I think that being better organized with a guideline for the powerpoint would be helpful for the student to utilize a lesson plan to get the point across in a timely manner and in an organized way - like suggesting objectives, key points to mention, and a conclusion and accompanying assignment of sorts or review.

Web Design Assignment New Skills While working on the Web Design Assignment, I used a very basic and modern design aesthetic and decided to make the website very user-friendly and easy to maneuver around for both students and parents ease of access. I actually consulted a resource that helped me design the website so that those with attention disabilities could use it without issue as I've known people in the past that have struggled in this respect. I made sure to have information in multiple spots in different formats, like the curriculum for parents in two spots (so they're aware of topics and can assist at home) with a link to a comprehensive website, and also put the helpful sources (videos) that accompanied this curriculum for the students to use for help in comprehension. I really liked this activity though I have personally used weekly in the past in a professional setting so it was relatively easy for me to utilize and I had no real issues in putting the site together...

Diigo Experience I personally enjoyed learning about Diigo and I think it's a wonderful tool to bookmark information and annotate websites, but it's not really something I'm personally interested in. there are some limitations and tools that I wish were included in the features Diigo has with its' annotation feature, though the bookmark part of the software does seem all inclusive and able to be organized efficiently. I like how searchable information is on the bookmark section, if and only if the keywords and tags in addition to the comment on the bookmark is thorough and thought through to make sure it is actually searchable for the desired information, otherwise it's basically useless in my mind. the annotation capabilities we went through were cool but I would've like for the sticky-note feature to be more user friendly and able to be resized to fit the website page for easier access to them without compromising the information on the website which may or m...

Standards and Technology Matrices for ELA One of the standards for grades 6 through 8 is Hardware and Software understanding that requires full comprehension of the many components of a computer. Students should be able  to distinguish between computer parts (identifying their characteristics), explain the function of each component, and evaluate issues to implement software and hardware fixes through step-by-step processes. Based on my current skill set, I think that I would need some additional education to be able to teach this standard accurately and with learning retention by the student body. I have some knowledge of the components of a computer and how they work, but this is mainly in the realm of software not hardware, and in order to keep up with innovation and this generation's learning techniques, I will need some additional training in this area. These standards are very necessary for future computer understanding and continued education for after grades 6-8, so to be a...
